Pakistan Initiative for Mothers and Newborn (PAIMAN) (Sep, 2006-March, 2010)

Community Support Concern successfully completed PAIMAN (Pakistan Initiative for Mothers and Newborn Health) project in 11 union councils of District Dera Ghazi khan from Sep 2006 to Mar 2010. This project was funded by USAID and executed by John Snow Inc (JSI) as lead partner of a consortium include Aga Khan University, Contech International Health Consultants, Greenstar, John Hopkins University Centre for Communication Program, PAVHNA, Population council and Save the Children USA. Main objective of the project is to reduce maternal, neonatal and children morbidity and mortality in the selected districts of the country through viable and demonstrable initiatives with the following strategic objectives.
SO-1 Increase awareness and promote positive maternal and neonatal health behaviours.
SO-2 Increase access including emergency obstetric and newborn care to and community
SO-3 Involvement in maternal and child health services and ensure services are delivered through health and ancillary health services.
SO-4 Improve service quality in both the public and private sectors, particularly related to the management of obstetrical and neonatal complications.
SO-5 Increase capacity of Mother and Neonatal Health managers and care providers.
The significant outcomes in light of project main interventions such as Community Advocacy & Mobilization (CAM), improved access for MNH services, awareness rising and capacity building reflected as:-

- • 35 Community Health Workers (CMWs) were trained on newborn and mother care
- • 45 local Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) were trained on safe deliveries
- • 3801 women, Children and infants benefited from mobile medical services
- • Male and Female health/ youth groups, Emergency obstetric care committees and Revolving fund committees for emergency situation were developed through the project interventions.
- • 50708 community folks attended various awareness rising, advocacy and social mobilization activities.
- • 5211 women received TT vaccination in collaboration with Govt Immunization department
- • 2 Community based Blood donor volunteers groups were established.
