Disaster Management

   

Heavy monsoon rains in the month of August 2010 in Pakistan started the havoc and devastation, as rivers overflowed their banks in all provinces and Districts. Monsoon rains were forecasted to continue into early August and were described as the worst in this area in the last 80 years History
Four million Pakistanis were left with food shortages. DG Khan and Rajanpur are also of misfortune Districts where flood affected 23 Union Councils. Officials had warned that the death toll could rise, as many towns and villages are not accessible, and communications had been disrupted. In some areas, the water level was high and residents were seen on roof-tops waiting for aid to arrive. Many people were injured; houses and villages were damaged or destroyed. The Multan Road which connects DG Khan with Multan was waived off with the flood water and hence the city remained disconnected with Multan for a period of one month. This natural calamity remained severe pathetic impact in this target area as thousand of peoples, lands, crops and other socio economic infrastructure badly affected. CSC Team visited field areas where people affected with flood. Team met with them consoles them with the view to take them out from mental trauma.
A Rapid assessment was also held by the team and made relief activities from ongoing projects and organizational resources. Community Support Concern tried to trim down the people pain through provision of Food packets (containing the items for 15 days per family), medical services through static and mobile medical teams at communities and in IDPs camps, Distributed EID gifts during EID mela organized in IDPs camps and sensitization on elimination of Violence against women/girls under relief phase. In whole process organization ensured to maintain continues Collaboration with Government counterpart and civil society organization are also underway to ease the lives of flood affected people.

Move forward to Regain the Prosperous life                         (May, 2011- Apr, 2013)

Community Support Concern (CSC) recently started a project for rehabilitation of flood affected families under livelihood spectrum with the support of EED at District DG Khan and Rajanpur. The prime objective of the project is“To improve the lives of 1000 flood affected household’s incumbents and 20,000 peoples (particularly the Women, children & Infants) of District DG Khan and Rajanpur. At present the process of need assessment is underway through a customized tool along with its verification. A considerable # of families have been identified which will be supported through livelihoods (livestock management, agro support assistance, assets transfer technical skill development and micro enterprise development etc) initiative and on disaster preparedness. However the health services through static outlets and mobile clinic have already started from the month of May, 2011.  Some interventions related to elimination of gender based discrimination are also integral part of the project. The all project steps are being taken through an effective social organization paradigm approach.
